Joey Lai

Dr Joey Lai is the Genomics Advanced Specialist at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research Genomics Core Facility and has spent the last 10 years growing and supporting genomics research at the Westmead Research Hub. On top of managing facility operations, he has established services for a range of genomic technologies including short read sequencing, single cell and spatial transcriptomics, gene expression profiling and digital droplet PCR and routinely provides training to students and researchers. He completed his PhD at the University of Sydney in the field of HIV immunobiology investigating transcriptomic and proteomic changes in host innate immune cells during early infection. His interest lies in applying novel genomics techniques to solve clinical and basic research questions, and has experience working in a range of disciplines including immunology, infectious diseases and oncology.
